Your mental health and emotional well-being is important. We want to remind you to take care of yourself. You are not alone as you deal with problems affecting your health and wellness. Yale has great resources to offer to ensure you are able to meet your needs. AASL is here to help support and direct you to the correct resources.

  • Yale SOM's Embedded Counselor

    Margaret Milardo-Ward

    Margaret Milardo-Ward joined Yale Health in 2023 as the Embedded Counselor at the School of Management (SOM). Margaret received her bachelor’s in psychology from Assumption College and master’s in social work from the University of Texas at Austin. After graduating, Margaret worked in crisis intervention and prevention for 9 years and assisted in the implementation of a designated crisis hotline in Austin, TX. Margaret has also worked in private practice for 7 years and provided community mental health education throughout her career.

    Margaret’s specializations include trauma, eating disorders, suicidality and non-suicidal self-injury, chronic severe mental health and the interaction between life transitions and one’s mental health. Margaret is excited to continue her practice at Yale and within the SOM population utilizing a combination of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy.

  • Yale SOM's Deputy Title IX Coordinator

    Rebecca Udler, Assistant Dean, Academic Affairs and Student Life

    Rebecca Udler is the Deputy Title IX Coordinator for Yale School of Management. Deputy Title IX Coordinators are available to consult with members of the community about concerns or questions related to sex- or gender-based discrimination, including sexual misconduct.

  • Mental Health Resources

    Yale Mental Health & Counseling (MHC)

    MHC is located at 55 Lock Street, 3rd Floor. MHC provides free, confidential mental health treatment to members of the Yale student community. Their psychiatrists, psychologists and social workers are skilled in diverse treatment approaches.

    In urgent situations, any student can ask to speak to the on-call clinician, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Urgent daytime and after-hours calls go to the department at (203) 432-0290.

    Yale Sexual Harassment and Assault Response & Education (SHARE) Center

    SHARE is available to all members of the Yale community who are dealing with sexual misconduct of any kind, with both current/recent and past experiences, as well as offer support to those who may experience something indirectly. SHARE provides crisis support, advocacy, and referral to on-going care for all members of the Yale community. They also offer on-going counseling for students (undergraduate, graduate, and professional) focused on processing issues related to sexual misconduct.

    Located on the Lower Level of Yale Health and open for appointments M-F from 9am-5pm. Counselors are also available any time, day or night, at our 24/7 hotline (203 432-2000).

    Yale Chaplain's Office

    The Chaplain's Office is committed to helping students of all (and no) faiths deepen their knowledge, grow respect and mutual understanding across faith and culture and participate in discussions of religious, ethical and spiritual topics.

    Yale LGBTQ+ Center

    The Office of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer Resources can provide advice and support on a number of issues faced by LGBTQ and gender non-conforming members of the Yale Community.

    Afro-American Cultural Center

    The Afro-American Cultural Center at Yale, or "The House," is a space dedicated to sharing in the culture of the African diaspora community through programs, events, and activities. In celebration of the African diaspora and African-American culture, the House serves as home to resident student and community groups related to the House's mission and serves as a space where students can experience a "shared sense of family and belonging."

    Asian American Cultural Center

    The Asian American Cultural Center (AACC) promotes Asian and Asian American culture and explores the social and political experience of Asians in the United States. The Center's mission also includes fostering support for Asian American Studies and the creation of academic and intellectual programming that invite students and broader constituents to engage with the field and support emerging scholarship. Home to 52 student organizations, the AACC also hosts programs and activities that bring together undergraduate and graduate/professional students, alumni, faculty and staff to share in these common goals.

    La Casa Cultural

    La Casa, the Latino Cultural Center at Yale, provides an inviting space for Latinos/as at Yale to share their traditions and heritage with one another and with the Yale and New Haven community. Along with its resident organizations, La Casa "provides opportunities that foster a sense of belonging and pride while also supporting the intellectual, personal, leadership, and social development" of students.

    Native American Cultural Center

    The Native American Cultural Center (NACC) provides a "permanent and prominent Native American presence at Yale that incorporates and supports the success of future Native leaders through recruitment, encouragement, mentoring, service, and the fostering of a community for Native American achievement, research and solidarity." NACC and its student groups produce events and activities specific to the needs and interests of Native American students and those interested in the Native American cultural experience.

    Office of International Students and Scholars

    The Office of International Students and Scholars (OISS) provides assistance for the 4,700 international students, scholars, and family members studying at Yale. OISS offers services related to immigration matters and offers a variety of programs and services to help international students and their families become acclimated to living in the United States and at Yale. The International Center, home to OISS, offers space for students and scholars and their organizations to study, meet, and socialize. A variety of programs, including a local host program, a social group for international spouses and partners, and an English language support group help international students navigate their academic and personal lives at Yale and in New Haven.

    Yale Psychology Department Clinic Diversity and Anti-Racism Resources

    YPDC seeks to reduce the psychological burden created by social inequities and discrimination, and strives to build a world that is just and equitable. Within this link students can find resources related to minority mental health and anti-racism.

    Mental Health America

    Mental Health America is dedicated to addressing the needs of people living with mental illness and promoting everyone's mental health.     Yale Well

    Yale Well is the student wellness program at Yale University to find clinical resources, boost your overall well-being, learn stress management skills, or find a community to engage with. Their site can help you navigate the services and opportunities throughout the Yale and New Haven community that can help you stay healthy or find help when you need it.

    Yale Stress Center

    Yale School of Medicine has a center dedicated to understanding stress, and resources on how to reduce daily and acute stress to manage our wellbeing.

    The Good Life Center

    The Good Life Center is a cultivated space to inspire, teach, and practice living the good life. All Yale students are extended a warm welcome to explore the spaces and attend events.

    McDougal Graduate Student Center

    The McDougal Graduate Student Center is located in the Hall of Graduate Studies and includes offices and services that enhance the life of graduate students at Yale. Consisting of the McDougal Common Room, the Blue Dog Café, meeting rooms, offices for the Graduate Student Assembly, the McDougal staff and fellows, and other graduate services, the McDougal Center provides academic and social resources and opportunities for graduate students and their families.

    Student Accessibility Services

    The Student Accessibility Services Office can work with you in accessing the support you need while at SOM. Accommodations may include note-taking assistance, adjustments to exam time/timing/location and addressing physical accessibility and transportation challenges. Note: professors are not informed that you are receiving an accommodation.

    Poorvu Center for Teaching and Learning

    Poorvu Center for Teaching and Learning provides writing, tutoring, and mentoring resources specifically designed to support academic and personal success at Yale.

  • Physical Health Resources

    The Payne Whitney Gym

    The Payne Whitney Gym contains training centers for gymnastics, swimming, strength and conditioning, group fitness classes and a state of the art fencing salon. Payne Whitney Gym is free to all Yale students, and memberships are available for purchase for student spouses. The Payne Whitney Gym will offer both virtual and on-site classes. The classes at PWG will be available to "in residence" graduate and undergraduate students, while the virtual classes will be open to the entire Yale Community.

    Group Fitness & Instructional classes and information can be found here. Classes include cardio, dance, martial arts, sports skills, and a wide variety of yoga. Classes are open to all Yale community members, including partners and spouses, and are available for a minimal fee.

    Yale Walking Routes

    There are plenty of sidewalks throughout New Haven that are great for walking. Recommended routes, based on neighborhood and distance, are available on the Being Well at Yale website.

    Fit for Thought

    Fit for Thought is Yale SOM's student-run fitness facility in the basement of Evans Hall. The gym provides a convenient and functional place for SOM affiliates to stay physically fit. It is managed by a team of student leaders and affiliates of Yale SOM for a semester-based fee. All affiliates of Yale SOM may become a member of Fit for Thought: Current SOM students, SOM Faculty and Staff, and Partners/Spouses who have an active Yale ID. The gym is open 24/7. SOM students, faculty, staff, and partners who have successfully signed-up and paid the membership fee will have card access to the gym room.

    Yale SOM Sports & Recreation

    Yale SOM has their own Sports & Recreation Clubs that students can join. These include Golf Club, Hockey Club, Ski & Snowboard Club, SOM Run, SOM United Soccer Club, Yale Grad Crew, and Yale Grad Rugby Football Club.

    Graduate & Professional Intramurals

    The Graduate and Professional Intramural Program provides an opportunity for Yale affiliated personnel to socialize, compete and exercise in a safe, friendly environment. This program offers a platform for people to find recreational release through a variety of sports and competitive levels. The Grad-Pro Intramural program includes opportunities to join teams in volleyball, soccer, softball, basketball and ultimate frisbee. Traditionally, teams are created by department, but interested participants looking for a team are encouraged to complete the free agency form. Most sports consist of competitive, recreational and co-recreational leagues.

    Yale Health Center

    Located at 55 Lock Street, Yale Health promotes the health and well-being of every member of the Yale community. Providing consistently outstanding care, compassionate, patient-centered service and innovative practices is our promise to our members and Yale University.

    If registered as a Yale degree candidate student, enrolled half-time or more and paying at least half tuition, whether living in New Haven or studying remotely, students have Yale Health Basic Coverage free of charge. Yale Health Basic includes services in Student Health, Mental Health and Counseling, Gynecology, Acute Care, the Inpatient Care Facility, and Blood Draw. Students who are attending Yale remotely can obtain basic services through MyChart and telemedicine visits with Yale Health providers.

    All students enrolled at least half-time in a Yale degree-seeking program are automatically enrolled in and charged a fee for Yale Health Hospitalization/Specialty Care Coverage. Students who have alternate insurance can waive Yale Health Hospitalization/Specialty Care Coverage (with proof of alternate coverage). Please note that you are eligible for all Yale Health Basic Coverage services regardless of whether you waive Yale Health Hospitalization/Specialty Care Coverage or not.

    Yale Health coverage does not end with your graduation and will continue through the end of the plan year, which is until July 31st. Currently, there is no continuation of Yale Health available for graduated students beyond the end date, however, we can offer information on alternative coverage options that you may investigate. Please note: these options are not endorsed by Yale Health or Yale University and this is for information only.

    The Yale Health Pharmacy is open M-F 8am-6pm and Saturday 8am-3pm

    Academic Travel Rider

    The Approved Academic Travel Rider helps meet the medical needs of qualified students who travel within the United States but outside of the Yale Health service area. It is offered as a supplement to Yale Health Hospitalization/Specialty Care and provides coverage for non-emergent illness and chronic care only.

    Alternative Health Coverage

    There are many independent health insurance options available as an alternative to Yale Health Plan (YHP). For assistance with transitioning your health coverage to another insurance provider, please contact the YHP Member Services Department (member.services@yale.edu or 203-432-0246).
