SOM Pride Week
Yale School of Management
165 Whitney Avenue, New Haven, CT 06511, United States
Details
Pride Week is a dedicated week recognized across the university as a way for our community to celebrate together prior to Pride month. In many countries, June is officially recognized as Pride month, even though some cities may hold their pride events on alternate dates.
Pride Month is largely credited as starting with the Stonewall Riots, led by trans activists of color Marsha P. Johnson & Sylvia Rivera, lesbian activist Stormé DeLarverie, and bisexual activist Brenda Howard. Early in the morning on June 28, police raided the Stonewall Inn, a Greenwich Village bar that had become a staple of New York City's underground gay community. But this time, tired of the ongoing raids, community members fought back, striking what would become known as The Stonewall Riots. A year after Stonewall, the first Gay Pride March was held by the Christopher Street Liberation Day Committee to commemorate the riots.
Join Out of Office, the Office of Inclusion and Diversity & the Yale SOM community to celebrate! Have suggestions you want to share? Feel free to send recommendations here: https://cglink.me/2eF/s90917

How do we reconcile the tensions between public queerness and safety, between complicity and identity, between professional ambition and the pressures of "selling out"?
In this talk, Professor Joseph Fischel will explore the intersections of sexual politics, law, and queer life, drawing from his forthcoming book on sodomy law in Louisiana. He will examine the false binaries that shape contemporary debates—such as the opposition between concerns about sexual harassment and the visibility of kink at Pride—and challenge the idea that queerness must conform to respectability to survive in professional spaces. Reflecting on the challenges of corporate assimilation and the burdens often placed on trans and queer professionals, Professor Fischel will offer a candid and thought-provoking discussion on flourishing within contradiction.
Professor Fischel is an Associate Professor of Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies and chair of LGBTQ Studies at Yale University. Read more about his background here: https://wgss.yale.edu/people/joseph-fischel

Join us for a very special Social Impact Lab in collaboration with the SOM Pride Week and co-sponsored by Out of Office!
Greg Bourke will be joining us. Greg is the author of Gay, Catholic, and American: My Legal Battle for Marriage Equality and Inclusion, and was a named plaintiff in Obergefell v. Hodges, the 2015 U.S. Supreme Court that ruled the right to marry is guaranteed to same-sex couples by the Fourteenth Amendment.
Lunch will be served at 11:30 a.m., please try and arrive early to grab food so we can get started right at 11:45!
7:15 PM – 10:15 PM
In collaboration with the Office of Inclusion and Diversity, Out of Office invites you to join us to see Death Becomes Her. Based on the 1992 film Death Becomes Her, a deliciously deranged dark comedy that found redemption in the embrace of the queer community, this musical tells the story of a pair of celebrities—vain Helen and vainer Madeline—trapped in a rivalry fueled by jealousy and black magic.
After the show, you're invited to join a talkback with general manager Jovan Kala Hannah and music director Ben Cohen to learn more about the business of running a Broadway production. We are collecting a donation to Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS -- the philanthropic heart of Broadway, helping people across the country and across the street receive lifesaving medications, health care, nutritious meals, counseling and emergency financial assistance -- in thanks for hosting this talkback. Please send contributions as you are able to Joseph Dobson (Venmo: @josephdobson).
11:45 AM – 12:45 PM

6:30 PM – 8:30 PM
Ready to question everything you know—and everything you see? Join us for a queer movie night screening of "I Saw the TV Glow", a mesmerizing trans allegory that lit up TikTok feeds last year. As a classic A24 production, you’ll be invited to step beyond the ordinary and into a realm where every reflection reveals new possibilities. Let your curiosity guide you…and find out what lies behind the glow. Come join us for dinner and a movie!
