The Physical Economy as the Next Frontier
Software ate the world. Now venture is turning to the industries that build, move, and power it. Join the Yale SOM Private Equity & Venture Capital Club for an in-person conversation with Jake Wieseneck, Partner at Maniv, an early-stage venture firm that invests in transforming the core building blocks of the physical economy: Making, Moving, Powering, and Computing. Jake joined Maniv in 2021 to lead its New York presence. He focuses on investments across the United States, the Americas, and Europe, as well as the firm’s fundraising and strategic initiatives. Before Maniv, he was a founding team member of Apax Digital, the $1B growth equity fund of Apax Partners, and earlier worked at the private equity firm HIG Capital and at Echoing Green, a nonprofit that supports social entrepreneurs. Jake is a magna cum laude graduate of the University of Pennsylvania. We’ll discuss why manufacturing, mobility, energy, and compute are being rebuilt now, how AI’s demand for power is reshaping the grid, what makes hardware and deep-tech startups investable at the early stage, and how Jake moved from private equity and growth equity into early-stage venture. The conversation will close with audience Q&A. All students are welcome. No VC experience needed.
