Yale Glee Club

• One of the most traveled choruses in the world, the Yale Glee Club has performed in every major city in the United States and embarked on its first overseas tour in 1928. The Glee Club's repertoire embraces a broad spectrum of choral music from the 16th century to the present, including Renaissance motets, contemporary choral works, world folk music, and traditional Yale songs. Many performances held on campus, so they are more accessible than the Whiffenpoofs (see below).

Yale Repertory Theater

• Part of New Haven's long and renowned theater traditions, the University Theater is one of Yale School of Drama's performance spaces.
Yale Whiffenpoofs

• A Yale tradition since 1909. This group of 14 undergraduates are a part of the world's oldest and best-known collegiate a cappella group. A definite must-see. They sing every year at commencement and throughout the year in several locations locally and nationally. Best-known of at least a half dozen a cappella groups on campus.

• The council is a wonderful resource for information on the arts scene in New Haven. Headquartered in the Audubon Arts District next to the New Haven Ballet, Creative Arts Workshop (CAW), and the Neighborhood Music School (NMS).
Artspace/City-Wide Open Studios

• Artspace's annual visual arts festival, City-Wide Open Studios, is the third-largest open studio program in the nation (over 400 artists participate). The event takes place each fall and is a chance for the public to visit artists in their own studios and meet artists who set up "alternative spaces" and site-specific installations in vacant buildings. Free guided bus, bike and walking tours, and special studio maps are offered.
Creative Arts Workshop

• A regional center for education in visual arts and craftwork, the workshop offers over 300 classes, including kids classes, jewelry making, printmaking, photography, pottery, and a ton more. They also have a gallery and exhibitions.
Hamden Symphony Orchestra at Southern CT State University

• An all-volunteer orchestra of more than 50 members from the Greater New Haven area and beyond. Concerts located in the Hamden area.
Long Wharf Theater

• Quality regional theater. Long Wharf is recognized as a leader in American Theatre, producing fresh and imaginative revivals of classics and modern plays, rediscoveries of neglected works and a variety of premieres. They offer last minute "rush" tickets the day of the show.
New Haven Chorale

• Professional singers give 3 concerts a year at Woolsey Hall and Battell Chapel. Performing traditional and contemporary works they routinely take part in the Symphony's Holiday Pops concert and are known for their Gilbert & Sullivan and cabaret renditions. Open auditions in the fall.
New Haven Civic Orchestra

• Established in 1940, this orchestra is open by audition to anyone who plays an orchestral instrument. The orchestra gives two performances every season in addition to an annual Christmas concert. Performances at Yale's Battell Chapel.
