Connecting to the Extended Classroom:

How to Utilize Zoom & Slack

If you have any questions please contact emba@yale.edu.

How to Verify You Are Signed into Your Yale Zoom account?

  • In the Zoom app, click on the profile picture in top right corner.
  • In the top of the window that comes up you will see the email address that is logged in. It should be your @yale.edu address.
  • As long as you see your @yale email address you are signed into Yale.

How to Access the Zoom link for Your Course

  • Log in to Canvas with your NetID and password.
  • Navigate to the respective course you'd like to join.
  • Under the menu on the left-hand bar, go to Zoom.
  • Go the date of your class meeting, and select the Start button to join.

Zoom Sign-In Instructions

  • Log in to Zoom using your Yale account only. This is the only email address that is on a preloaded list to authenticate you directly into the courses.
  • Go to https://zoom.us/signin#/login
  • Select Single Sign-On "SSO" from the list across the bottom of the page.
  • Enter "Yale" as the company domain.
  • Then enter your NetID and Password.
  • Then go over to your course in Canvas, to the Zoom tab, to access the Zoom link.
  • Log in to Zoom 20 minutes prior to class in order to verify your access into Extended Classroom. (Note: five minutes or less to classes starting, the team may be delayed by helping others.)
  • If you cannot get in or lose connection, please wait two minutes, and try again using your Yale Zoom account. In case of any technical difficulties, please Slack EMBA team members in the classroom's Slack channel (see below).
  • Please verify you are signed into Slack as well. You can reach out to client services if you have further questions regarding Slack.

Using Slack

  • You have received an invitation to Slack to communicate any technical issues with the audio/video during your Extended Classroom session. The SOM Media Control Center will receive these messages and will work to troubleshoot any issues.
  • For each classroom that you remote in to there will be a corresponding Slack "channel" labeled with the classroom number i.e. if you are in a Healthcare course the room will be labeled "embaclassroom4400". In the Slack "channel" you will be in direct contact with the technicians in the SOM Media Control Center and can quickly alert them of any technical issues.
  • Please contact emba@yale.edu if you need the invitation to be resent. If you need further technical assistance, contact SOMIT at somit@yale.edu or 203 432 7777.

Slack Etiquette & Rooms

  • Use Slack to communicate any technical difficulties you may be experiencing while the class you are remoting in for is in session.
  • Extensive typing and chatter, that is not course related, disrupts the students as well as the MCC downstairs.
  • For each class you remote in to, join the corresponding Slack channel. Be sure to connect to the correct Slack channel so the MCC knows which room to service. See below for Slack Channels. Email emba@yale.edu should you not have access to these channels:
  • 1st Year Core Courses: #embaclassroom4420
  • 2nd Year Advanced Management/Healthcare courses: #embaclassroom4400
  • 2nd Year Sustainability courses: #embaclassroom4430
  • 2nd Year Asset Management courses: #embaclassroom4410
