The Golden Hour
Twelfth Edition- 12 December 2021

Dear GOLD,
Congrats on being two finals away from finishing our first semester! We are so close to a well-deserved break. I hope everyone can take some time to relax and recuperate—I know recruiting still rages on, but make sure to fit in a deep breath and some Netflix at least :)
First things first, please don’t panic about COVID’s impact to our Spring 2022 schedule. I have not heard any whisperings of hybrid/virtual classes, cancelled plans, or travel restrictions from student government or the Yale faculty. Try not to get caught up in any vortexes of gossip or rumor—we’ll just need to cross our fingers and continue to follow the SOM guidelines as they come out. As such, please keep in mind the twice per week testing requirements we will have when we return in January and plan accordingly. For now, let’s make rational choices about gatherings (Toads has been cancelled for Tuesday night) and focus on everything we’ve accomplished so far!
Here are some of my personal highlights from the fall:
  • Representing the best 1Y cohort at SOM. It sounds cheesy, but I have loved getting to know you all! I am inspired by your stories, humbled by your intellect, and proud to share this experience with such a diverse and passionate group of people.
  • Finding out you can refer to Professors by first names instead of “ma’am” and “sir,” and not having to wear a uniform every day.
  • Closing Bells and weekend parties! I can’t wait to get back into the social scene (safely!) in January :)
Second, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me over break with questions or concerns. Safe travels to everyone going home! If you will be in New Haven for the month, I know there is a Slack channel available to keep people connected. I will be in CT if you need anything (rides, groceries, company, cheer, etc.). If you ever feel stuck, Slack me!
Finally, YOU KNOW I can’t let any December/January birthdays get away without acknowledgement so…
Esther: 24 December
Khalya: 31 December
Michael Klein: 1 January
Allegra: 8 January
Snehashish: 16 January
… we’ll be singing to you in spirit!

GOOD LUCK tomorrow! We got this! Have a safe, happy, and healthy winter break. Can’t wait to see you in the new year <3
Best Wishes and Warmest Regards,
Frances
