Hold up. What's a WIM Summer Email Chain? Do I have to forward it to 20 friends for good luck?

You don't! The WIM Summer Email Chain is a wonderful SOM tradition that lets us keep in touch with the class of 2016 and 2017 women over the summer through a series of weekly “newsletters” sharing what everyone is up to in their internships or at work.

The short story: Send in a contribution just once during the summer in exchange for experiencing the joy of reading about everyone else’s experiences all summer long, responding with support, advice, love, and sarcasm whenever you want. We need you to sign up on a special google doc, because we’re not using the regular WIM listserv for this.

WIM Summer Email Chain FAQs

1.      What is the WIM email chain?

The WIM email chain is an SOM tradition. It’s a series of scheduled emails that come from your amazing women-identifying classmates from the classes of 2016 and 2017 during the summer, talking about their internship  and job experiences. It allows us to not only keep in touch with one another over the summer, but also get vignettes of what life is like working in variety of industries and functions.

2.      Why should I participate? I’m a very busy person.

The professional answer: When we get back to school, some of us may be thrown into the flurry of full-time recruiting. Hearing candid accounts of different internships will help you get a sense of what various industries and functions are actually like. Also, it’ll help you figure out who has networks in different industries.

The personal answer: We’re a tight-knit community, with a lot of talented and witty writers, and it’s fun to hear what everyone’s up to. Plus, with no Student Life or cohort rep emails coming in, you’ll be missing some of the emails that make you laugh. We’re happy to fill that void in your life!

3.      I’d love to join, but I have NO IDEA what my schedule for the summer will be like, so I don’t know what week to sign up for. Does this mean I can’t participate?

Of course not! We’re excited to have you join us. If you’re not sure about your schedule, just pick a week. You can work with Natania to change it later.

4.      You’ve convinced me. How does this work?

Glad you’re on board! Sign up here for the week during which you’ll make your contribution (for the purposes of this, summer runs from June 5 to August 21), as well as to add the email address to which you’d like to have emails sent when other people contribute to the email chain. We have three slots open for each week, but are happy to expand if more people want to join, or if you’d like to write more than one email. For right now, just sign up for one slot.

As we're sure you already know, we recommend not using your work email.

At the beginning of each month, Natania will send out an email to all of the people who are signed up for the email chain with the week during which they signed up to send an email. Write an email and send it to Natania, who’ll compile and send a newsletter to the group. That’s all!

5. I don’t want to write an email, but I want to read everyone’s else email. Can I join the distribution list? 

To make the email chain rewarding and fun for everyone, we would love to have as many contributors as possible. We strongly encourage you to write an email in order to be part of the community!
