Join MENA for a special Affinity Week gathering. Enjoy Turkish tea and pastries as we screen the short film Misafir (30 minutes), followed by a Q and A with the filmmaker, Yale World Fellow Mariam El Marakeshy.
Synopsis
Misafir (“A Guest”) is an award-winning documentary that follows the stories of three teen immigrants who fled war and found refuge in Istanbul. The film highlights their backgrounds, their integration into a multicultural city, their contributions, and the way Istanbul received them as “guests” rather than “refugees.”

To kick off our Affinity/Spirit Week, the Student Government will host a panel on Belonging at SOM. We will be hosting discussions with fellow 1Y and 2Y students. The idea of the event is to open the floor for more vulnerable discussions on a peer-to-peer basis around the challenges of finding a community and feeling a sense of belonging.
