Pride Week is a dedicated week recognized across the university as a way for our community to celebrate together prior to Pride month. In many countries, June is officially recognized as Pride month, even though some cities may hold their pride events on alternate dates.
Pride Month is largely credited as being started by bisexual activist Brenda Howard. Known as ‘The Mother of Pride,’ Brenda organized Gay Pride Week and the Christopher Street Liberation Day Parade a year after the Stonewall Riots. This eventually morphed into what we now know as the New York City Pride March and was the catalyst for the formation of similar parades and marches across the world.
Join the Office of Inclusion and Diversity & the Yale SOM community to celebrate! Have suggestions you want to share? Feel free to send recommendations here: https://cglink.me/2eF/s90917
Agenda
Past Events
3:00 PM – 6:00 PM
Join us to (belatedly) celebrate Pride Week at Place2Be for fabulous drag performances! Seating starts and brunch will start at 3, and the performances will start at 4.
Join us for a conversation over lunch as part of our Out of Office Pride Week series! This event is open to all students (allies and LGBTQ+ community).
11:45 AM – 12:45 PM
[Lunch Provided] Join us for a fireside chat between SOM's very own embedded Counselor, Margaret Milardo-Ward, and OOO! Many of us already know (and love) Margaret, and this conversation is a chance to delve a bit deeper into how queerness and Pride intersect with her work and life. This event is an opportunity for all SOM students (allies and OOO members alike) to hear how LGBTQ+ issues intersect with school, work, family, and of course, mental health - topics that affect us all!
Margaret Milardo-Ward, LCSW-S (she/her) grew up in CT and spent the last 17 years in Austin, Texas. She worked in crisis outreach before starting her own private practice, and holds a Bachelor's Degree from Assumption University and a Master's Degree in Clinical and Medical Social Work from the University of Texas at Austin. Margaret moved from TX to CT in 2023 to start her role as SOM's first-ever embedded counselor. She lives in Clinton with her wife and 3-year-old son.
