Hotel Marcel owner/developer, Bruce Becker (Yale '85 MBA/M.Arch), and general manager, Ben Webster, will lead a tour and presentation of the history and redevelopment of Hotel Marcel. We will have a reception with food and drink during the two hour block as smaller groups (max 10 people) are toured around for 20-30 minutes. Transportation will not be provided, but carpools can be coordinated via this spreadsheet (https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/131z4RD0mUstOTrrVBD2ZnLx9bexpGMWjPB3ZfCtW_CI/edit#gid=0). Check out this Yale Insights video and article to learn more (https://insights.som.yale.edu/insights/what-does-it-take-to-build-zero-emission-hotel)

Hotel Marcel is the first Passive House certified Hotel in the United States and is located right here in New Haven! Recently renovated, it is 60% more energy efficient than code requirements. Solar power generated from rooftop and parking canopy arrays provide 100% of electricity for lighting, heating and cooling; and electric car charging stations. They utilized recycled and local construction materials; upgraded to a high-performance envelope with industry-leading thermal insulation technology; and installed an energy recovery system and high-efficiency VRF air-source heat pumps. As a result, the energy use intensity rating is projected to be 34 kBtu/ft^2 which is 80% less energy that median EUI for hotels in the United States.
