Calling all founders, innovators, and startup team members: WE@Yale is launching its mentorship program for women/femme identifying innovators in the Spring 2021 semester. The purpose of the WE@Yale mentorship program is to provide support specific to women/femme identifying Yalies looking to build or further develop their ventures. Through this mentorship program, we hope to give women/femme identifying Yalies access to industry professionals and entrepreneurs to provide advice and direction. Etkin Tekin of Hot Haven Chicken is looking to work with some Yale/Yale SOM students on a variety of projects. Please see below. Etkin graduated from Yale and went through the Yale Entrepreneurial Institute's Summer Fellowship Program (precursor to Tsai CITY) and co-Founded Bite with Jeff Hong, who graduated from Yale SOM in 2015. Etkin's co-founders in Hot Haven Chicken include Jason Sobocinski from Caseus/The Ordinary and the founders of Beer Collaborative. These could be good projects for someone who is interested in doing an independent study next semester or who is looking to get some experience in a food startup. MGT 612 / GLBL 612 / F&ES 632 : SOCIAL ENTREPRENEURSHIP LAB
Have you ever wondered what it would be like to practice social entrepreneurship? You don't have to found your own company to make a difference. Everyone can learn from the social entrepreneurship mindset and skillset, and apply it in their own way to create social impact. In this course, we combine theory and practice, applying a systematic framework to guide students through the social entrepreneurship experience. We start by identifying a social or environmental challenge each student is interested in tackling. Students form interdisciplinary teams to immerse themselves in characterizing the challenge, ideating potential solutions, and building business models around those solutions. Social Entrepreneurship Lab is a safe space to experiment, iterate, prototype, test, and fail. You don't need to launch your venture, though some teams will. You'll meet alumni who launched new ventures; and social entrepreneurs from New Haven and around the world. All students are welcome; no prior experience necessary.

MGT-663: The Life Science Industry

This course will be taught 100% on-line. This course serves as a description and critical assessment of the life science industries, focusing on the pharmaceutical or biopharmaceutical, but including discussion of the medical device and diagnostic industries. The topics covered include drug discovery, preclinical development, clinical investigation, and economic, financial, and strategic considerations of the drug development process. Emerging areas of interest and development, ethical issues and societal impact will also be explored. A multidisciplinary perspective is provided by the faculty, who represent clinical, life, and management sciences. Various guests from academia and industry also participate. Prerequisite for the course is one semester of college level biology.
MGT-646: Startup Founder Practicum, Applications Open
MGT-646: Startup Founder Practicum will be taught 100% on-line. The purpose of this course is to provide full-time Yale SOM students with a mechanism to work on their start-up ventures for credit, applying principles derived from their other coursework, particularly the integrated core curriculum. Students in this course articulate milestones for their ventures and work with faculty, staff, and mentors to meet those milestones. Generally, the course employs "lean" methodology. Admission to the course is restricted to students in a full time program at Yale SOM who have formed a venture prior to the beginning of the class. Admission is by application only and is limited to Yale SOM students and joint degree students.
