Title IX Working Group at Yale SOM

Yale SOM is committed to furthering an environment in which all members of our community feel safe, respected, and well-supported. Title IX of the US Education Amendments of 1972 protects people from discrimination based on sex in education programs or activities that receive Federal financial assistance.

Our Charter

  • What is Title IX?

Title IX of the 1972 Education Amendment Acts Provides:

No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance.

Title IX is published in the United States Code at 20 U.S.C. §1681-§1688

Back to BasIX campaign at Yale SOM

Back to BasIX is a campaign at Yale SOM initiated by the Title IX Working Committee.

The Goal? To raise awareness on Title IX at Yale SOM, and to help create an equal and healthy school environment for all who work or study here, regardless of sex and/or gender.

This committee, made up of faculty, staff, and students, works to raise awareness on issues surrounding Title IX, such as sexual misconduct, and to make sure you have the resources you need to succeed, regardless of your sex and/or gender. We hope to foster an SOM community that makes everyone feel safe and supported.

Yale and SOM Sexual Misconduct Survey Findings

In 2015, Yale participated in the Association of American Universities (AAU) Campus Climate Survey on Sexual Assault and Sexual Misconduct. SOM wanted to gain more school-specific data, and therefore we launched our own sexual misconduct survey in 2017. Yale participated in the AAU survey again in 2019, and committed to participating in the survey every four years. SOM recognizes that our students have a shorter program cycle, and wanted an opportunity to gather data in between AAU surveys.
