While we will continue to make additions both during and after Orientation, the content currently posted on Canvas is designed to get you ready to begin your time as an SOM student. Please take a look through all the pages and external content before arriving for Orientation on August 11. All content included on Canvas pages on this site is important to know before Orientation, and we have included links to some additional external pages that will be important references for you during your time at SOM.

Yale SOM Orientation Attendance Policy - August 11 - 22, 2025

An excused absence for Orientation can be granted by the Academic Affairs & Student Life (AASL) office only under the following circumstances with adequate documentation upon request:

1. Severe physical and/or mental health medical Issues

2. Personal Emergencies* (please note that job commitments, internships, recruitment, and social engagements do not qualify)

3. Religious Holiday Observances

Excused absences are only granted by the AASL team, and approval is not guaranteed.

Excused Absence Form

Students can request an absence from Orientation programming by submitting the SOM Orientation 2025 Excused Absence Request form, which will be linked from each program's Canvas site at the beginning of August.

Notify AASL

If you have a conflict that will prevent you from arriving in time for the start of the first day of Orientation (August 11), you must notify AASL at som.aasl@yale.edu with the reason for your request.

Last Day to Notify

The last date you can request an excused absence from the first day of Orientation is Friday, August 8. Requests for unforeseen emergencies will still be considered after this date.
